Mike, that's very interesting. More light, less heat. A lot more light from the looks of it in the video. I wonder how much they will cost....still in development apparently. We could really use a good bright light that is not too hot and costs less to run. That would change indoor growing in winter!

Thanks for posting.

High-pressure sodium internal reflector  lamps.
Area of application:

    * Seedlings growing;
    * All-season growing of vegetables, flowers and greens in greenhouses;
    * Decorative plants growing.

What will tell?

that light is a Plasma light a lot different than high pressure sodium or metal halide the bulb doesn't even have any electrical wires in it . it burns about 4 times as bright with half the electricity & burns cooler also , from what I'v read .

Lora, I've used high pressure sodium lights to grow hibiscus. They are good if there is also some natural light as in a greenhouse or a room inside a house with windows. For areas that have no natural light metal halide are better. These are both forms of what is called HID lights (high intensity discharge). HID lights give the most light for the amount of electricity used. The drawback to them is the cost of buying them and the amount of heat they give off. The heat can be a benefit in some circumstances such as in a cold basement in winter. They cost a lot because a special ballast is needed to run them and the bulbs themselves are pretty expensive. Figure $200 to $500 depending on the wattage  (between 150W and 1000W). The newer lights called LED lights show promise, too, but I have not used them yet.
