This might sound like a silly question, but better safe than sorry. I have a lot of clay, terra-cotta colored pots that I keep most of my plants in. I was thinking of spraypainting the pots a different color (don't really like terra-cotta). Could the spraypaint harm the plants in any way?

I think that the spray paint will not hurt the plants as long as it doesnt get on them. My main concern would be if you sprayed them a dark color, which would be a heat sink in the summer. Plants don't really like having hot roots!

Thanks Chris... I'm going to try it out on one pot and see how it goes.

Jordan, the problem I can think of is that the paint will peel off. The tera cota is very porrus allowing the moisture to escape and the roots to breath. That moisture will continue to come out of the pot that way causing the paint to bubble, then flake off. It will be messy messy and you will be sweeping up paint chips more then anything and the pots will look terrible once that starts.

Yes, those articles were great! I wouldn't have thought of the paint peeling off due to moisture. But now that you mention it... duh! My problem is that I want all my pots to be exactly the same, regardless of size. So they all MUST be the same color and design. I found some nice looking plastic pots at Walmart that were all in different sizes, but they've discontinued them. It's so easy to find the standard terra cotta pot, but I don't like the color. So I thought... why not paint them? Then they'd all match! lol

I've been using biodegradable bamboo pots. I like them because they are much heavier than plastic pots so my plants don't blow over easily. The six inch size is deeper than the standard 6 inch plastic pot also. I was able to find them online for 2.49 each. Come in several colors.
