I have had this plant for several months now and not one single bloom. the plant is very attractive with the reddish limbs.

it is outside in dappled sunlight and gets watered every day and is fertilized with HV formula.

Charlie or others, any idea why it will not bloom?

I don't think there is a problem, apart from buds your CM looks perfect and now its just a matter of time. I also have one and it took ages to bloom. The only problem i had i should have pruned it earlier, but as it only had one very strong trunk i left it,now its getting quite tall but it looks ok and like you waiting for blooms.

Louis, that is normal for Cranberry Muffin. I did not offer it in 6 inch pots this year because it takes too long to start blooming and gets too big for a 6 inch pot. However, once it does start blooming multiple open flowers is a common experience. My 8 inch pots of it started blooming about a month ago and are going great now. 2 things to watch for - thrips knocking the buds off or too low light levels. I doubt you have either but it is good to keep these in mind when hibiscus do not bloom.

hello charlie, nice to hear from you.

the plant never had any buds for thrips to cut off. and it is in a rather shady spot. i had it direct sun when i first put it out, but the intense heat we have had this summer started to burn the leaves.

i will try to give it a little more sun.

thanks,

Hi Louis...I too have cranberry muffin..I got her in a 8 inch pot about 6 mo ago..and she has been blooming pretty steady...not a lot of blooms all at once..just one or two at a time..but she is in almost full sun...and we do get hot here...we had 107 last week and she did okay..some yellow leaves...but she survived...so I think she can take more sun than some of my others..hope that helps...lynette

David, how interesting to see the different color shades of Cranberry Muffin. "Cool" in Vietnam must be a relative term because those flowers look like hot weather colors to me! I'm glad your plant of this variety reached blooming stage. It's one of the slower ones to do so, like Flickering Flame, but once they get there they bloom just fine.

I've got great news on my CM. I received it earlier this year in a 4" pot along with several other CV's and it's got several buds. They're not going to open for a few more weeks but after reading how long it took others I'm really excited. It budded up faster than several others, and only trailes behind Acapulco Gold and Simple Pleasures.

Well, one thing abut hibiscus - they like to make exceptions to any general rules we come up with about them!

I'm glad your Cranberry Muffin is budding up this year - good job!

Although one of my favorites what a challenge this cv has been for me, it has always bloomed but its leaves cant handle the sun, even 30 mins and the leaves will crisp up, its been in every place in my back garden, its also  unlike any other cv and looks like a small tree and not a bush [its at 5 feet tall in the photo], loads of times I have thought about pruning to get the bushy look but as it always has buds I just cant do it,
Well its found a new home now in the shade, its on a small porch at the front  and is still blooming, the photo does not really do it justice as it is a real eye catcher when you enter my apartment.
