Kerry, there have been a few more of your seedlings bloom. I have photos in the camera and will post them when I get them out of the camera - soon I hope. I think you will like some of them. One of the prettiest (in my opinion) comes on a very floppy bush but you never know what will happen once they are propagated. Its a "blue" that came from Cinnamon Girl x ?, its marked on the tag by I can't recall at the moment. Anyway, check back in a few days and there should be more to see here.

Today there are photos of 3 more of the flowers from plants grown from seeds that Kerry hybridized and sent to me.

First is the Cinnamon Girl x Gator Pride cross that I have mentioned before. The flower is 5 to 6 inches, same as the parents or slightly larger, very pretty flower color. The seedling bush is one of the floppiest I have seen in awhile but I took cuttings anyway in the hope that the bushes grown from cuttings will be better. That happens sometimes.

Second is Cinnamon Girl x Wild Dream. Nice color that changes to more yellow during the day, about 7 inches,
not good flower form with the split between petals, appears to have a good bush.

Third is Wild Dream x Heartbreak Hotel. Color is pleasant if not exciting, size at 7 inches, and bush appears good.

Hybridizing is as much or more about deciding which varieties to keep as it is which varieties to cross. Lots of factors go into that decision and no doubt each hybridizer makes choices that are unique to him or her.

He's right... you have a good start for names.  It made me start thinking what to name mine, and they are only little sprouts so far!

I'm glad you are thinking up names, Kerry. I got enough rooted cuttings off the big yellow one to serve as stock (and to send you a plant) so the next time we get more cuttings we will need to name it and put it on the store next year. Pretty neat!

Also I'm pretty sure I have photos of at least a couple of others from your seeds that bloomed at the end of the season. I haven't processed those photos yet but when I do I will post them here for all to see.

The American database of names is down again but hopefully they will get it back up before too long. Meanwhile, if we name anything that is a duplicate we put HVH before the name to avoid confusion. The Australian list of names is still available for checking.

Lou, I can't say for sure with any one seedling but what happened in general is that last winter I grew most of these in 4 inch pots and then in April and May potted them all up into 2 gallon pots. The first of these started blooming in August with more to follow in September and October. Mostly its taking 7 yo 12 months to see a first bloom but that is in very hot and sunny conditions. Anything less adds more time to first bloom.

Hi Charlie

I wanted to know did any of the cinnamon girl X HBH bloom ? I saw someone with the same cross and I sent you 3 sets of seeds from this cross. I believe 2 CG X HBH and one HBH X CG

I just totally forgot how many I have sent you lol I was looking through my Hibiscus journal wondering.

Also I had a question did the last seeds I sent you sprout ?
