Kerry sent me some seeds last year and yesterday the first plant grown from those seeds bloomed for the first time. The cross was Cinnamon Girl x Wild Dream and the first flower was 6 inches. Photo is below.

It does! Does anyone know who the parents of EoK are?
Congrats, Kerry and Charlie!

I agree, Chris. It's a nice clear yellow with something extra around the eye to provide interest. Probably not commercial but good enough to keep and enjoy. Not sure what Kerry will want to do with this one, but no doubt she will check in sooner or later.

Meanwhile another seedling with the same parents bloomed, but it was a day that I did not have the camera with me. The second one was similar but was bigger at 8 inches and also featured a strong, prominent eye contrasting well with the yellow petals. It folded up by the second morning which was too bad but first blooms can behave differently than blooms that come later. Best guess is that the second seedling could be commercial quality if it roots and if it grows well, etc.
Better be thinking up a name, Kerry! I haven't taken any wood yet because I want to get a good photo before cutting it back. When it blooms again which should be soon I will post it here.

Kerry's second seedling bloomed again today and I was able to take a photo of it. It's large at about 8 inches and the most prominent feature of it is the eye and eye zone. Very nice, really. Note how similar it is to the first seedling from the same cross but the second one is a larger flower and the eye is more striking.
I also cut some wood from it to try to root it and then see what kind of growth habit it has and how often it blooms.
Photo below.

I bet they will be, Chris. Some of yours were just potted up into the 2 gallons a couple of weeks ago. Those are not likely to bloom this year but should next spring. Those of yours that were potted up to 2 gallon earlier may yet bloom before winter sets in.
I told Kerry to be thinking about names but don't know if she has come up with any ideas yet.

I hope they don't wait till next spring! That would be torture The corny name I came up for this one is "Ring around a Rosey"

Catchy name!
The trick to surviving the wait for seedling blooms is to always have some somewhere in the pipeline - from pods on the plants to seeds waiting to be germinated to seedlings in starter trays and some in 4 inch pots and some in the big final pots. That way the time between new blooms is reasonably short. August was overwhelming for me this year - literally several hundred new flowers to check out. It's slowed down a lot now and will slow even more as we go into winter. I'm not caught up yet with the photos but will continue to post the new flower shots as I get them off the camera and resized. Cuttings have been stuck from many of the new ones which will determine whether they have any chance of being offered later on.

That makes sense Charlie, how cool it must be to walk through the seedling area and see what new color palate arose from the genetic combination you made happen!
