Charlie...are these hibs generally slow growers...I have sunkissed blonde in alot of good sunlight and sleeping beauty gets around 3 hours of direct sun...but both are growing very slowly....I have had both since last year and they still are quite small....??Lynette

No, neither is slow growing. My best guess is that each had a winter setback and then this spring has yet to turn into summer in California. These days that are overcast most of the day with unusually low temperatures are slowing down many hibiscus in southern California. In the greenhouse we are seeing normal vigorous growth but in our outside garden the plants are way behind where they would be in a normal year. Just have to be patient and wait for full sun and hot days and then the hibiscus will respond!

My Sunkissed blonde grew really slow when it was cool and its picked up alot. Some varieties really dont like the cold weather, and I think SKB is one of them.

We keep looking for the sun and some temperature increases but.......even now Cindy has the heater on in the office and it's dark with marine layer clouds outside. Checking weather.com the forecast is for more sun during the next 10 days but the high is still only going to be in the 70's where we live. Late July often has highs in the 90's so this is quite cool compared to the norm. It is good for flower color and longevity on the blooms we do get.

Charlie, there's hope. OC woke up to sunshine today. Still only 68F at 9:15 though.
