I have a beautiful hibiscus that is young, but about 6 inches tall already. When can I expect it to bloom and is there anything I can to encourage it to bloom sooner than later?  I use a Miracle Grow that contains more acid about once every week and half or so which has worked beautifully on my mature hisbiscus.  It even brought a gorgeous yellow one out of hybernation within one week.  Other than that I live in North Texas so it gets plenty of sun and is watered daily.

Hi Nightflash,

There is no surefire thing that will make your young hibiscus bloom right away.  Some varieties just take longer to start blooming than others.  Take for instance Young at Heart, that CV needs to grow several feet before it starts to produce buds.  On the other end of that spectrum, some CVs start to bloom soon after they are propagated, one such variety at least for me was blue ballerina.  It bloomed when it was about 4 inches tall.  All you can do now is just keep the plant watered, fertilized and give it plenty of sun and wait for it to do its thing Smiley

Hi Nightflash,

If your hibiscus is only 6 inches tall that would mean it is pretty young. Usually it will take about 3 months to reach blooming size from that point but as Chris said it can vary by cultivar and of course growing conditions matter, too. Warm and sunny, well fertilized and watered will get it to blooming stage fastest.
