Ok guys, I have been needing to post this for a long time.  I have 4 hibs that I've lost track of who they are.  I got all of these plants last year.  I got several shipments of multiple 4"pots and took the tags off, thinking it would be fun to have a surprise when the plant bloomed.  HA!  Some plants died, and now I'm not sure what I have.  A couple of the mysterise have been solved as plants bloomed over the winter, but these 4 remain unnamed.  If you have these cvs, do the leaves look similar to you?  Anything stand out?  I will post more pictures if anyone wants to see.

They could be any of the following:

Bridal Path
Allure
In The Mood
Cranberry Muffin
Valentine's Day
Purple Magic

So, picture number one I'm pretty sure is In The Mood.  ITM on the website has some pictures that include foliage, and the rough leaf margins look quite similar.  This is the only one I actually might gamble on.

Picture number two I have NO idea.  I just pruned it, and it didn't have any buds on it yet anyway.  Any thoughts?  The leaves have smooth margins and are a little pointy.

Picture number three might be Valentine's Day.  I seem to remember putting VDay in this pot, but I wouldn't bet on it.  Seems to have a little faster than average growth habit that would be consistant with VDay, but again don't know.  Could be Cranberry Muffin too I guess... but no red bark that stands out.

Finally we have the smallest one.  This plant had a rough winter.  It has some salt damage and some sunburn, but I flushed the pot and gave it some supernova and it has started growing again and seems happy.  This might be Bridal Path, but I don't have any reason for thinking so other than the inkling in the back of my mind.

Thanks for your help!

I think that your Valentines Day, looks similar in leaf color to mine when i had it, and its faster than average growth is something I observed as well.  I think it is probably that or Cranberry Muffin which also is supposed to grow faster than average.

I think your guesses are good. When they get a little bigger it might be easier to confirm. The one you did not guess at reminds me of Allure. Leaves give us one clue, growth habit is equally good so we shall see in another month or so.

Thanks, guys!  Yeah Chris I have a feeling about that one... the pot that the alleged Vday is in is the original pot I potted up into out of the HVH 4" pots.  This is a larger pot than I normally put such small plants in, but I think I did this because I ran out of smaller pots and knew about the growth habit of Valentine's.  Charlie, I hope that one is Allure!  Out of all the possibilities, Allure and In The Mood seem to be the hardest to come by along with Purple Magic.  Purple Magic was somewhat of a spontaneous purchase but I had wanted Allure for some time.

I will keep everyone updated...

Purple Magic is a worthy flower - big and colorful. The bush you may want to keep an eye on as it tends to think it is in a hanging basket. If you stake any branches that try to flop it is possible to train it to be nicely upright.

Purple Magic it was!  I started to have the suspicion when the bush really got floppy.  Here it is now (photo number two above)!  PM bloomed with twins on my birthday.  Smiley  I have more work to do on staking it up still.

Jordan, your bush with its pretty blooms is great advertisement for Purple Magic. The color of the blooms looks fantastic against the lush green leaves. Charlie needs to pay you a commission Wink

Did you confirm the other cv's?

Looking back at the first photo of this plant, it HAS grown a lot!  I have barely kept it potted all summer.  Still no word on the other cvs.  They have all been pruned now, so more waiting is in store.  The plant that we suspect might be Vday and the plant that we suspect might be Bridal Path have both had a bud or 2, but they dropped thanks to my thrip friends.   Roll Eyes  I need to post updated pictures of the bushes though.  Hopefully in a few more months we will know...........

P.S.  ....and I would probably spend that commission on more plants.  lol!!

Well, the plant I thought was Bridal Path finally bloomed........  could've been Cranberry Muffin, Allure, In the Mood, or Bridal Path........

Looks like In The Mood!  Funny, I was thinking Bridal Path all along.

The bloom had just opened in the photo, and it has been open for four or five days now!  Albeit outside in the cool air, but it still looks like it just opened!

Aii right, In The Mood it is! That bush can get very large and full so if you want it to
give it a big pot but if you prefer to keep it smaller keep it in a smaller pot and root prune it every 2nd year.

Fun!!

Charlie, what does root prune mean?  Take it out of the pot, cut some off the root ball, and put it back in the same pot w/ new dirt?  How long can you do this?

Oh, and BTW Jordan...  I didn't realize how beautiful PM actually was!  I'm glad you have it rather then it being one of the casualties!

Root pruning sounds scarier than it is. You are right, root pruning means cutting about 1/3 of the roots away from sides and bottom of the root ball and then repotting in fresh potting mix. This is very handy for keeping hibiscus in the same size pot for years instead of increasing the pot size. By doing this the entire plant is stimulated as the roots grow back. It's best done in late spring.
