In anticipation of a good year for new hybrids, this topic has been started as a place to display photos of the newest seedlings from HVH and anyone else who wants to post their seedling photos.
These are mostly first flower photos, or sometimes later blooms if the flower changes with weather or is just so pretty or different that it calls out for sharing. There are no plants for sale of any of these, and many will never be propagated or will not propagate readily and so will never exist beyond the first plant grown from seed. Of course a few will get names and be available in a year or 2 or 3.
Below is a photo of 3 new "blues" that bloomed yesterday, arranged on a table indoors.

The best of the new seedlings that bloomed the last 2 days are below. They are:
08-7032 Creme de Cacao x Gabriel. This one is a larger version of Creme de Cacao with some extra visual appeal.
08-7182 Born To Be Wild x Midnight Blue. This one is a stand out for its colors and increased size over BTBWild.Still only 6 inches but up out of the mini category that BTBWild usually is.
08-7221 April Showers x Midnight Blue. I really like the color of this one, very little red in the blue, and am hoping for larger size than the 5 inches it was at first bloom since both parents are larger.
Tangerine Mist 08-7450 CremeCacao x Hickory Wood. This was a surprise color but what gives it distinction is the very pretty eye. 7 inches.
07-9338 Creme de Cacao x Moon Madness. This one bloomed last year but did not propagate on the first attempt. It's pretty and different enough for a second try. 7 inch flowers.
08-7065 Saffron x Fireball. Do we need another brilliant red? Not sure but this one was super bright and very large, 8 inch plus flower.
08-7150 Living Legend x SimplePleasures. I like this one for the good form and large bloom size at 8 inch plus. As with all like this the decision will be made based on details like how much it blooms, how readily it propagates, bush shape and vigor, and flower presentation.
The forum accepts 6 photos at a time so that's it for today. More as the summer progresses!

Oh, Charlie, they are all pretty! I'm so glad, though, that you gave Creme de Cacao x Moon Maddness another chance. It is my favorite along with Creme de Cacao x Gabriel (I love the starburst effect on this one). LLxSP is a beauty too... Well done!

Really like them! My favorite is the BTBW x Midnight blue. If it makes it might I suggest a name? "Star Spangled Banner" right next to Rockets Red Glare, you could really have your own fireworks display

That's a great name for this one, Chris!!! We better jump on it asap, as it would go well with the existing Rockets Red Glare. The plant is still so young that the wood is not firmed up yet so I haven't even tried to graft or root it. As soon as it does I will probably try some of each type of propagation so that we get it going for sure. Photos are not as good as real blooms as they can be better or worse than the real thing, but to both me and Cindy the real bloom of this one had extra snap that got our attention.
Thanks for the suggestion.

Not sure if I missed the pic earlier or if you added it with your edit, Charlie, but the pic "New Blue" is actually absolutely gorgeous! The 3 blooms do match wonderfully! I saw the photo on THML and was going to ask if you were holding out on us

Chris and Kerry, I'm really holding onto hope for the seedlings you have hybridized. The crosses you made have good potential but what is hard to keep in mind is that no one posts photos of all the mediocre seedling blooms that are part of hybridizing. Really, it can get discouraging at times when flower after flower turns out to be less exciting than either parent. But then, suddenly, there is a new jewel staring up at you for the first time! That is fun, but the so-so's are also part of the process, and a very big part so we have to accept that, too.
Luck is another part of it - and I wish you (and me) plenty of luck with this year's crop of seedlings.

Yes I have the 182 seedlings and I already know a lot will be throw aways But I would like to see all of them anyways before you toss the not so good ones out ( I like keeping a data base of things for my hibiscus I have now )

I have a few seed pods growing on Dragons Breath: DB x Flickerin Flame and DB x Heavens Scent. I had several really exciting crosses on burnished gold, but snow and sunburn may have done them in

Kerry, you have 182 seedlings growing in your apartment? That will be quite an accomplishment if you can get them all to first flower!
I like those crosses, Chris. The mind boggles at the possibilities!

Yes I'm flooded with seedlings LOL. Most wont bloom this summer. Some are so small because I didn't transplant them yet. Maybe by fall I can get some blooms on the younger ones we will see.

Kerry, it will be interesting to hear what happens with them.
Yesterday a few more seedlings left over from last summer bloomed here in the greenhouse. Three of them were worth a second look. We have:
Living Legend x Johnny Reb - these 2 varieties with 8 inch flowers produced an offspring that also has an 8 inch flower, but in different colors. Johnny Reb is a solid gray, Living Legend a red. I rather liked this one, and will try to propagate it soon.
Born To Be Wild x Allure - this is one where you can really see the influence of both parents. The flower is 6 inches with similar patterning as BTBWild but with more of Allure's colors. Not sure if this one will be a go but will watch it bloom some more and then try to propagate it.
Brassy Blonde - Creme de Cacao x City Slicker - another one with 6-7 inch flowers but it has made a lot of them recently. It has a sort of warm glow to it when seen in person and might be worth growing more of if other qualities are good.
Solid Yellow - this is not new but I've never propagated it nor gotten rid of it. At first glance it is a plain yellow but the difference is that it has no contrasting eye, being yellow over the entire bloom which makes it a rarity. The form is nice enough with full overlap of the petals and some tufting. I'm curious if anyone would want to grow it.
That's it for today's seedling report. Click on photos below to see full size.
