Charlie, do you graft Cinnamon Girl or does it grow on its own roots?

So far I've only grown Cinnamon Girl on her own roots. This cv is not as easy to root as I would like, but once rooted it grows and blooms well.

Thank you!

The reason I asked is that my Cinnamon Girl is cut back to a 3 inch stump (remember my posts about the distressed CG?) and it only has 2 small leaves left at the bottom. Above the leaves is a ridge in the stem which made me wonder if it was grafted. But now I remember this plant is actually a cutting I made myself and I gave away the original HVH plant.

I re-potted it along with all my other hibiscus in 8-inch pots. Unfortunately the roots didn't seem as crisp, so I'm not sure if it will make it. But if it does come back at least I now know there won't be any surprises Wink

Good luck with it! What you described is a typical decline for a hibiscus and I won't be surprised if it does not make it, but you never know and trying to help it may just make the difference.

Charlie, are you still growing Cinnamon Girl? If so,will it be available in January?

Cinnamon Girl is taking a break this year. Instead we are introducing an offspring look-a-like named Cinnamon Splendor that has considerably larger flowers than Cinnamon Girl.

Cinnamon Girl is one of the best for SoCal in my book. It blooms profusely and leafs out early spring.

Len, you are making my day today! Maybe Cinnamon Girl will be one to graft next year.

Charlie this thing blooms so much that last fall I had a hard time keeping it from rotting since the fall was wet and cool and all those  spent blooms kept sticking and rotting out the stems. Everyday I would have to pull 4 - 5 new blooms that were about to fall off. Smiley

Len, that is a good tip for anyone living in a wet or humid climate or experiencing a rainy period. As you saw, spent hibiscus flowers can stick to the stems rather than fall onto the ground and when they do they can develop fungus rot that sometimes spreads to the stems that they are in direct contact with. It's a good idea to take a morning tour and remove all old flowers from bushes so this doesn't happen. Makes them look better, too!

What a beauty! That one deserves to be propagated.
