This might be a somewhat useless topic, but hopefully fun nonetheless.
For those of you who are interested in hybridizing, will you register a quality seedling you come up with? If so, what do you think you'd name it and why?
Charlie and Cindy, where do you get your inspiration for all the names you have to come up with?
If I ever end up with a good seedling with blooms in the orange category, I think I'll name it "Hazelpuff" after my orange kitty. I haven't thought any further ahead than that. haha

Naming is part of the fun. We brainstorm them, and I veto each one until we come up with what feels right. I've used play on words, song titles, adjectives that describe the cv, just about anything as long as it is somewhat memorable and seems to fit the cv even if only I can see why..... I've avoided names of relatives and friends so far but think it a nice gesture sometimes.

So Chris, is there a "sweet Caroline" in your life? The name does have a nice ring to it!

So do we! I'm thinking pink for "Sweet Caroline" but she could be a yellow or a yellow and pink!

Sweet Caroline is a hardy hibiscus name, a pink. Does that mean it is not available? Or are the hardy's not included in the name line up for torpicals? That didn't make any sense did it... You know what I mean.

Variety names of other species can be used by tropical hibiscus and vice-versa - happens every day. The nomenclature (list of names) for Hibiscus rosa-sinensis only includes names of varieties of this species and those are the only names to avoid using twice.

Aah, I see. I didn't know if since they were both hibiscus the name would be considered taken. In that case, pretty name!
