Equal sun, is it needed.

I have an area in my garden that i would like to plant more Hibiscus. It is in the ground and fairly tight up against a tall wall with an overhang, the plants will still receive adequate sun but obviously only on one side and in the afternoon. I just want to know if this would be a problem as all my other plants are in pots and whatever way the blooms face i just turn the pots in the morning so i have a nice view. As i am new to growing i am unsure if Hibiscus need pretty equal sunshine rather than shall we say just one half of the plant.

Hi David,
This type of growing situation can actually be quite favorable for hibiscus, particularly in hot areas with intense sun. I'm not sure what Vietnam is like but I assume the sun is intense and the days can be hot. What the wall does is block the sun for part of the day and this gives the hibiscus some relief which can be helpful for blooming. It also allows the flowers to last longer since they are not cooked in the sun all day long.
We've noticed that hibiscus tend to bloom a little more on the side that faces the sun but they will also still bloom on the other side. You can pick those blooms that open facing the wall and use them as indoor decorations which is easy to do since the blooms do not need to be placed in water after they are picked.
I'd give it a try - I think it will work out well. Just remember that hibiscus grown in the ground need deep soaking when watering so that the water will seep down at least 2-3 feet into the root zone.
