Hi guys,

How much of the Bayer 3 in one concentrate to I need to put in the spray bottle to make another bottle of solution?  Doing the math would take too long.  lol

Thanks,
Jordan

Hi Jordan,

Assuming you are going to reuse the the 3-in-1 spray bottle which holds 24 ounces, you would fill it with 23 ounces of water and then add 1 tablespoon of the concentrate. Shake well and you are ready to spray! (This is equivalent to 5.25 tablespoons per gallon)

Since you are making your own spray, you could also customize it by adding 1 tablespoon of horticultural oil to the mixture in the bottle. This would be particularly effective if you are spraying for mites. Keep the plants out of direct sun for the next few hours.

Good luck!

Thanks Charlie!  Now, if I add the horticultural oil, should I add the concentrated version of the oil or the ready to spray version?

You would add the concentrate oil. The ready to spray oil is already fully diluted so it would not do much good if added.

Ok, thanks!  I thought so, but I didn't want to make an oil mistake again!

Yeah, that was unfortunate that time. Personally, I think the mix of oil and pesticide is the best way to get rid of the mites.

Question: do you have a respirator mask and gloves to use when spraying? Please get them and use them when spraying anything. Small droplets will get in the air and you will breath them in. It's better not to.

A trick when spraying outdoors is to stand upwind from the plants, even if there is only a light breeze. That way most tiny droplets will be blown away from you. In still air they hang in the air for quite a long time even if you cannot see them.

Gloves will protect skin from contact with chemicals, and it seems to me that every sprayer leaks a little from time to time or drops manage to fall on hands one way or another.

I don't mean to scare anyone, as these types of pesticides and hort oil are relatively safe, but no exposure is the best policy and only takes a little bit more effort.

I do have a respirator mask, but no gloves.  Seems to me the respirator is the main issue for me.  I spray my plants in my bathroom over the tub, with the door closed (cats).  I did this a couple of times with out a mask and promptly ordered one.  lol

Good!  Gloves can just be the type you buy at the grocery for washing dishes. If you don't use them wash your hands well after the job is done. The hort oil is of course harmless to your hands.

I am going to beat this drum more in future posts because I know how easy it is to ignore the basic safety practices and used to do so myself until I learned how simple it is to just do the job right and safely.
