White Eyes

I have always been attracted to white eyes and now that I'm finally getting some crosses to take I was wondering which cv's might throw a white eye.

Saffron is my favorite. I just found a new seedling first bloom this morning that was yellow with a white eye. I'll be comparing it to Nina to see which does best. The parents on the new one must be wrong - the tag says P's Purple x Soft Spot, which are 2 small lavenders and this is a large yellow! Somehow the wrong tag must have been put on this one.

I agree I really love Saffron, still waiting for mine to start budding up since its prune in July. "The Right Stuff" is also really attractive, red with a white eye. Come to think of it that belle x saffron seedling you showed had a pink flower and white eye which was interesting

As usual, Chris, you get me to thinking about whatever the topic is. I went back and looked at all current seedlings that are being evaluated and found 17 of them with white eyes. The great majority are Saffron offspring, but there were a few others as well. That was 17 out of several hundred, the others having dark eyes in most cases. We expect dark eyes in hibiscus, and such eyes give the flowers a nice center, but since they have dominated hibiscus flowers for so long I think myself and others find white and lighter colored eyes quite appealing as a contrast to what we usually see.
I will post some photos, but have to find the time to process them first. I have my camera set on medium for size and quality but with a good camera nowadays that still results in 1 mb file sizes per photo and too large pixel size for posting here so I have to adjust the size before posting.

Thanks Charles
I gave Saffron to a Friend as a house warming gift. It really complimented their back yard. I think I can persuade them to let me borrow it for a month or so.
