Hi I am Dimitris and I am just a new member here.
I have a lot of hibiscus plants that are able to survive in the mild winters of south Greece where I live. However, some of them have to be moved indoors as they are more sensitive than others. These are usually hybrids that come from the Hibiscus Schizopetalus. Now this is the problem.
These hybrids and especially the H. Schizopetalus itself, when they are kept indoors they start yellowing their leaves and sometimes they may remain with only bare branches. This however, does not affect their flowering at all and they show continuous new grouth at the end of the twigs.
There is also a characteristic sugary excretion from the leaves that makes them very sticky. I have observed no mites, aphids or any other parasite. I water them properly and feed them twice in a month as they are in small pots and they tend to grow out of proportion.
Could you please advise me on this problem which I am facing ? the problem is mainly that the plants become completely unsightly and bare, so I have to prune them.
Hi Dimitris and welcome

I have experienced the same sugary substance you speak of. I am not sure what its from. I think Charlie explained it on here some where but I forgot where. As for the leaves falling off and yellowing it could be from the shock of moving from a sunny outside area to a less sunny indoor area. The hybrids you have might like more sun. This is my guess but I will let others chime in.
