Second question! Grin

I have been looking at 1000’s of Cv’s from HIS website ( yes I looked at all of them haha)  , HVH, and many other Hibiscus Hybriziers websites. Maybe am seeing a correlation between the color of stigmas and the plant. I am not done with my findings but if turns out what I am seeing are true I will post more about it.

I have also notice that dark stigmas is pretty much rare, I have found passion play to have usual dark stigmas and , I have seen this on Pro legato , It looks like dragon’s heart has dark stigmas also. I have a list of other dark stigma cv’s I found but I need to find out where I put this on my computer.  I have another theory about the dark stigmas also.

I made that same observation, I wonder why that is.  Also looking at Matador some cvs have dark anthers before they release pollen.  I rarely see this trait in cvs that are yellow or pink, so it may have to do with red pigment.  Any thoughts charlie?

I also notice the same cv's will have a change in color on the stigmas, this could be the same thing you are seeing too , Chris. I seen some yellow stigmas on one cv and then I saw some more pictures of the same cv but the stigmas where a orangier color.

With my research I have only found these dark stigmas in only Red flowers or fushia pink flowers like passion play.

Interesting. The main use of this so far in the hibiscus community is when trying to identify a photo of a hibiscus bloom people refer to the color of the stigma pads. They are either orange or yellow and sometimes it has been thought that this could confirm or refute an ID. However, I once looked over all my photos and spotted a few cvs that could alternate between orange and yellow at different times. The one I remember that did this was 5th Dimension but there were others. I suppose that this negates using pad color to confirm identity but I don't think anyone has done any systematic investigation into the whole thing.

I think it's neat that you all are looking into these color variations.
