Ok folks, with the cool winter weather I have another shocker.  Chris I tried to hide the background as much as I can on this one.

Have fun....

Picante, really? At this time of year anything is possible but under all that "winter red" there should be a dark pink eye zone that I don't see. This looks just like Black Dream but that is so obvious I doubt Darren would pose it as the mystery bloom. Hmmm, looks much like Dragon's Heart, too, but again that would be normal colors for either of those.

For those who don't know it, below is a photo of a normal summer Picante.

Wow Chris, we're you in my backyard yesterday?  I thought this one would be really tough...how did you know this time? Grin

Picante it is but as Charlie said it looks almost like a Black Dream.  Really amazing as I didn't think it would get this red.  No eye zone or anything else, just a luscious waxy red with some pretty veining of slight orange hints.

This is why hibiscus are so awesome - so many things make them look different and I love the surprise blooms like this.  This CV definitely reacts tremendously to the slightest weather changes.  If you are thinking about Picante I highly recommend it.

Haha, yes I flew into LAX to check the tag and flew back to SEA/TAC.  Wink

Nice colors on that one. Heartbreak hotel makes some really fantastic offspring.  I have a bunch of seeds from HBH, no doubt many will be keepers Smiley

Is Heartbreak Hotel a seed setter?  I love mine.  She's not doing so well at the moment after a summer in near-full sun.  I think next year I'll put her in a shady spot.

Hi Jordan,

Yup HBH is an excellent seed setter, I have at least 10 crosses with it growing up now.  It produces some really nice seedlings, usually when crossed with brown or blue CVs.

It is one that does not bloom well in very hot conditions, so it will benefit from some shade.  Remember the post about naming CVs, where Charlie talked about how HBH was going to be Barry's name sake CV, but it didnt bloom well in the summer heat so he changed it to HBH?

I do remember that.  HBH bloomed ok for me this year, but the bush is rather unhappy.  Combine full sun with salt burn and you get one sad HBH.  Sad  She's inside now, where it's 74 degrees and she gets 2-3 hours of direct sun daily.  I can't wait to try some crosses with her.  It's about time for me to start hybridizing.  :p
