Wow, excellent photo! This bloom is a unique color that is hard to capture but you did it well I think. Fallen Hero is a more purple version of the ever popular High Voltage that parented it (along with Orville Davis). It blooms well like both parents.

I have a small Fallen hero. I bought it late last year and it still looks pretty pathetic, it never really got going. It has very short internodes, so something is wrong. Im glad your flower is doing so well. Great picture

Hi Helix,
Send me a photo of the sick Fallen Hero if you want. I can sometimes get an idea what is wrong with it. We transplant these same 4 inch potted plants into our larger pots and probably one in two hundred fails to thrive or outright dies afterwards. There are several causes of this but we throw the bad ones out when they turn up. This is one of the drawbacks to shipping the 4 inch pots. I never really wanted to ship this size but the demand for them made me change my mind and go ahead and do it. I think the six inch pots that are budded up and "tested" by reaching that stage before shipping are a better way to go but the cost is higher and some like the challenge of growing the smaller ones.
Anyway, if you received a bad one, which is what it sounds like, you should get a replacement. Anyway, send me a photo and let's see if that tells me anything useful.
Charlie

Hi Charlie,
I attached a photo to this post of the plant. I looked at my e-mail records and it looks like I bought it on October 19, 2008. Any suggestions and ideas as to what is wrong would be great!

Hi Charlie,
Fallen hero keeps blooming and it just looks great and the blooms are large also, don't know if the colors are the same in every climate but they look great up here in Ohio. This was the first time I ordered the 6 inch pot along with Key lime pie, I have always ordered the 4 inch because my first one I ordered from you Love story which was a 2 gallon pot several years ago just didn't do good and ended up dieing, but after receiving these (2) 6 inch pots I have to say I will most likely be ordering that size from now on because even though it cost more the plant themselves seem to thrive better.

Thanks for posting the photo. I was surprised at how it looked. I was expecting to see poor color and a general look of struggling but this little guy has excellent color and seems poised to do something. It wouldn't surprise me to see it take off when it gets enough heat and sun this summer. It might be that when you received it last fall it was slow to get started before winter set in and then couldn't really grow much during winter. Please let me know in about 6 weeks if it has taken off or not. If there is no change then something is wrong, perhaps with the roots. Meanwhile sun and warmth is what it needs.

Hi Charlie,
Thats good to know. About a month ago the leaves were transparent, yellowish so I started adding a bit of an iron supplement to the daily waterings. It colored up nicely, I am waiting to see it take off, it is in 8 hrs of sun and its been in the 90s here, so if it doesnt take off in 6 weeks, ill be sure to let you know.
